The .reb extender siginifies that were created usisng Prorebel, a copier
which allows you to copy wierd disk configurations.

It was stated vey clearly in the index that prorebel was needed to properly
run this demo.

Prorebel is a coprighted program, thus it is absent from the archive.  If
anyone has a more widely known copier that will work similarly, please
let me know.

reb files originate from ProRebel, which is a hacked (pirate) version(s) of
Procopy.  It allows you to copy a protected disk into a file, which can be
uploaded to a Pirate BBS.  A pirate on the other end can download it, and use
ProRebel to create a new "protected" disk.  This program also allows you to
have several versions of Procopy being controled by one front end (GEM).  It
has nothing to do with ProCo, it is an illegal product.  This is most annoying,
as this means that the programs do not even have to be "broken" to be Pirate
BBS fodder.

Actually an illegal hacked front end for several versions of the commercial
product ProCopy.

A friend recently replaced his internal 1/2 meg drive with a 1 meg drive.
He threw out the old one, so I thought I'd use it as a second drive
on my STM (no internal drive).  I made up a lead, but as soon as I
connected the new drive, BOTH of my drives started acting as single
sided.  Anyone understand this?  It must be possible to have one of
each, since lots of people have 1/2 meg internal drives and 1 meg
externals on their STFMs.

Then again, we had to throw out a board full of electronics from his
machine when we upgraded.  Is this something to do with it?  Could I
use this?  Will it allow me to have the 1/2 meg as B: (I certainly
don't want one as A:!).

Alternatively, anyone got a cheap 1 meg drive for sale near London,
England?  Do PC drives fit?

You know, Mac is very "dot-oriented", so you would need to make/get aspecial
driver for it. And it would also reserve the serial port, so no modem...
This is because ImageWriter prints everything as a bit-image and mac does not
have an actual centronics-port, both printer and modem ports are serials.
So you can print pictures quite easily, but text does need a very special
driver.

The Imagewriter does NOT need to print everything as a bit-image, though it
obviously can, nor does that have anything to do with whether the interface
is serial or Centronics parallel.  The Imagewriter II will print ASCII text
quite easily, in either draft or NLQ mode, and optionally in color.  No need
for "dots" or "very special" drivers, just a regular driver.

But it does have an ASCII mode, so any text based word processor would be
able to use it. (But unless it has a printer driver for an Imagewriter, it
won't be able to bold, underline, etc.)

But you still would need some printer driver to do any screen-dumps, and
any graphic oriented prg will need a printer driver.

It's true that the Mac is very "dot oriented" but the ImageWriter and
ImageWriter II do indeed have built in character sets, and can be used to
print ASCII text as well as graphics.  I know quite a few people who used
Imagewriters on their Apple II's, for example.

The part about interfacing is true, though.  The Imagewriter is a serial
printer, so you would need to switch between printing and modeming.

First, let me thank everyone for all the responses I'm getting. The auction
has barely begun and I've received a number of responses. Along the
lines of my previous message(s), I want to reiterate that it was never my
intention to post updates daily.

*However* I am getting so many bids of equal value that I feel in all fair-
ness I should post at least daily for those people who are especially
interested in how things are going. BTW, I have not been mentioning
the name of the particular bidder. Upon refelction, I feel that it
would only be fair to list who's bidding what. If you have an objection,
let me know with your bid, and I wont list your name. Finally, before
the update let me address those who have asked me specific questions about
the software I've got (about 3 side-by-side cases full). I am currently
not able to give you a breakdown because my software is at home, with my
machine. However, this weekend, I will compile a quick list for you and
post it.

And, as of Wednesday afternoon, the highest bid is:     $350
(what a steal...)

Next week I'll also post a list containing highest bids on individual
items. Most people seem interested in the complete system, which is
how I originally planned on selling it. But, I am entertaining all offers.

Nobody should be surprised that when Mark Choi pointed out the highly
un-competitive construction of the upcoming ST notebook machine, some
brainless sycophants would crawl out from under whatever rocks they inhabit
to yell "How DARE you criticize our god".  It's particularly offensive,
however, to see boneheads like Bob Bright attempt first to invalidate Mr.
Choi's well-deserved criticism with some minute discrepancy concerning the
machine's weight, and then ask for an apology in the same paragraph that he
favours us with another brilliant profanity.  Where do these people come
from?  Does Atari pay them?  If so, couldn't they afford to hire more
intelligent people?

If TRH is any indication, apparently not.

Bob has failed to respond to my post concerning the Dell laptop, one of which
I am in posession of.  Why did he ignore this?  Quite simply, because it
completely invalidates his make-believe picture of the competition in this
market.

People like Bob are annoying not only because I have to add them to my /kill
file in an effort to upgrade the calibre of incoming news, but because they
spread false information and therefore contribute to the demise of a company
many of us have genuine concern for.

Give it up, Bob.  You're a fool, but you don't have to advertise it.

You are (wrong about this).  VGA simply has 6 bits per primary color, for
a total of (2~6)~3 = 262,144 colors, with 256 palette entries.  No tricks,
no horizontal-sync interrupts, none of that crazy stuff.  On a monochrome
monitor, you get 64 levels of gray.

        I could really use TOS 1.0 on disk as well.  I even have the
original disk, but it went bad.  In my naive days as new ST owner, backups
were not something I was familiar with.  I doubt you could post it on
an archive site, but could you mail it to someone?

There is a translation table in Flash, but I don't think you could emulate
a different terminal type just by adjusting it.  This is my only gripe
about Flash 1.6, it is not very configurable (as compared to Uniterm).  I
once heard of a Flash 2.0 coming out (I think in Znet), anyone know about
it?  Anyway, if you want to go VT220, get Uniterm 2.0e.  I believe you just
select it via radio button, and away you go.

I doubt it. If Atari think anyone wants something they usually put a price on
it. I'm still waiting to hear if NEOchrome is PD or not despite PD libraries
distributing it far and wide.

This works for some things and not others. If a program relies on a bug or the
way something is done by TOS 1.0 the it will work but if it relies on the
location of undocumented locations it probably won't. Some games in the bad
old days used to load at absolute addresses and will land on the TOS image in
RAM.

Until you press the reset button (CTRL-ALT-DEL won't work of course) or
switch off, your TOS 1.0 would be in control.
